Team Trident signs Marino Sato for 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship
The Japanese racer, fresh from his 2019 Euroformula Opentitle, will join Team Trident for his first full season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with the goal of quickly learning the secrets of the category and become one of its top performers.
Born in Yokohama, Sato entered the last four rounds of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship, increasing his experience which will come at hand for the opening round of 2020 on Marth 21st and 22nd at Sakhir in Bahrain. Despite the young age, Sato has an impressive motorsport resume and a remarkable career.
The 20-year-old Japanese made his single-seater debut in the 2015 Italian Formula 4 Championship before moving to European Formula 3 competition two seasons later. After two seasons in F3, he cruised to the 2019 Euroformula Open title before making his F2 debut in the closing stint of the series.
Sato joined Team Trident for two and a half days during last December’s series post-season test at Yas Marina. In that occasion, he left a strong impression on the Italian squad’s technical staff and gained their full trust. The experience of Team Trident’s personnel will enable Sato to quickly understand the secrets of F2 and delivered consistent growth over the season.
Marino Sato, driver Team Trident FIA Formula 2 Championship 2020
“I’m happy to joining Italian squad for Formula 2 in 2020 season. I really appreciate everyone who’s involved to make this happen. To be racing in here will mean a lot for me, and of course for the future as well so can’t wait to get started.”.
Maurizio Salvadori, Team Owner
“We are very happy to announce that Marino Sato will compete for Team Trident in the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship. Marino is a very professional racer with great talent. His recent, overwhelming, success in the Euroformula Open shows that Marino knows the art of winning races, a talent that only a few pilots have. I am sure that he will keep growing and improving under the Team Trident banner, and conquer the most ambitious goals."
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager
“Marino Sato is a young driver with limited experience in a very competitive championship like FIA Formula 2. Our technical staff was positively impressed by the quality of his work in the post-season test carried out at Yas Marina last December and will provide its best efforts to help him grow up during the season. In the first days of March, the series will line-up for a pre-season test session at Sakhir circuit. The Bahraini venue will also host the series opener on the 21st and 22nd of March. It will be very important to do a good job with Marino to start the championship in a positive fashion."
