F2 TRIDENT - ABU DHABI FEATURE RACE

FIA F2 Championship, Yas Marina, Feature Race Report

The opening race for the final round of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship was definitely not a lucky one for Team Trident. Arjun Maini hit a stuck car on the grid while Alessio Lorandi couldn't make his way to the top-10.

In the opening race of the 12th and final round of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship, held on the Yas Marina track, the Team Trident drivers were definitely not lucky. 20-year-old Indian Arjun Maini hit the stranded car of Nicholas Latifi at the start. The crash was very violent and forced both drivers, unharmed, to retire. The race was neutralized by the safety car for several laps in order to allow the stewards to clean up the area and remove the damaged cars.

Alessio Lorandi, who started from the last position on the grid due to a carryover penalty from the previous round in Sochi, emerged from the contact unscathed. Thanks to a solid race pace, the 20-year-old Italian rookie completed a comeback race in 13th position and ran at a really competitive pace. Now the Team Trident drivers will analyze the data collected during the Feature Race with the aim of preparing the best tomorrow's Sprint Race, the final one for the current season. The mechanics of the Trident Team will work hard to try to repair Maini's car in time.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager

"Unfortunately, the accident at the start put Arjun Maini out of contention when he was set for a comeback race. Alessio Lorandi emerged unscathed from the same incident and showed a good race pace. We expected a lot more from today. We will give our best to end the season with a convincing performance in tomorrow's Sprint Race ".
