On the demanding streets of the Principality, Ralph Boschung scored a new top-ten finish. Giuliano Alesi put up a good race pace, which allowed him to complete a convincing recovery.
The Feature Race for the FIA Formula 2 Championship, held on the challenging streets of Montecarlo, confirmed its tradition, rich of ups and downs. In addition, it was disrupted by a red flag and a safety car period that impacted on the team’s strategies. In a race with an unpredictable trend, both Team Trident cars completed the full distance and put up good recovery compared to their placement on the starting grid. Switzerland’s 21-year-old Ralph Boschung, who started from P14 on the grid, climbed up to P10 despite serving a 10-second time penalty due to the violation of track limits. In the final part of the race, Boschung’s strategy was affected by the intervention of the safety car, which compromised a probable top-8 finish. Giuliano Alesi's recovery from the 17th place on the grid to 12th place was also convincing. The 19-year-old from Avignon, a rookie on the streets of the Principality, expressed a good race pace but was penalized, as well as his teammate, for the abuse of track limit in the early stages of the race. Now Team Trident will analyze the feedback provided by the Feature Race in the usual preparation work for the Sprint Race, scheduled to complete the weekend’s activities tomorrow afternoon at 17:15.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager
"We are quite satisfied with the outcome of today's race, especially given the fact that in qualifying we had a lower result than our potential. During the Feature Race, both of our cars delivered a good recovery. Giuliano Alesi has maintained a great race pace, while Ralph Boschung scored points again, repeating the good result of Barcelona. A top-8 position would have been within his range, but the safety car affected our strategy in the final stages."
