FIA F2 Championship, Monza, Feature Race Report
A problem with his Mecachrome engine jeopardized the race of Arjun Maini, who took off from the seventh position on the grid. Alessio Lorandi, who faced an off-track exit, didn't end up into the top ten.
In the opening race of the tenth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, held at the world-famous track of Monza, the Team Trident drivers starred in a convincing race, but they could not make the most of their potential. Arjun Maini has ended up in a remarkable seventh position on the starting grid. After a good start, the Team Haas F1 junior driver suffered a sharp drop of power that forced him to return to the pit lane, where the Mecachrome technicians detected a problem in the engine operation. Team Trident was excellent in the tire change and allowed the twenty-year-old Bangalore-born driver to gain position in the pits, putting him in ideal conditions for attacking in the second stint of the race. Nineteen rookie Alessio Lorandi, taken from the eighth row on the starting grid, thanks to a good first phase of the race managed to get closer to the top ten. However, a track exit in the sand of the first Lesmo curve slowed down the promising Italian driver, who finished in sixteenth position. Now the two young drivers of the Trident Team will analyze the data collected in the Feature Race with their technical staff and will focus on preparing for the Sprint Race, which will be held tomorrow morning at 10.40 am in front of the competent and a large audience of the Italian Grand Prix.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:
"On our home track, our drivers could not get a result in line with their potential. The good seventh position of Arjun Maini on the starting grid was jeopardized by an engine problem, while our rookie Alessio Lorandi was performing well before an off-track exit at Lesmo. Now we need to keep the concentration high if we want to leave Monza with a convincing performance".
