FIA F2 Championship, Sochi Autodrom, Feature Race Report
Team Trident scored a remarkable seventh position with rookie Alessio Lorandi. Indian driver Arjun Maini was slowed down by an off following a contact with a rival.
In the opening race of the eleventh round of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship, held at the Sochi Autodrom, Team Trident took a solid seventh position with the twenty-year-old rookie from Brescia Alessio Lorandi, who secured his first points in a category in which he only made his debut at the end of July in Budapest. Lorandi, who appeared very convincing from the practice sessions, immediately found good chemistry on the Russian Black Sea track. After taking-off from the 13th spot of the starting grid with the "option" tires, the Italian did his tire change in the early stages of the race. Back on track, he put up an excellent pace and crowned his comeback with a seventh position that will allow him to start from the front row in the Sprint Race . The final heat will be held tomorrow morning at 11:20 local time, or the 10:20 am Italian. Less fortunate, however, was the run of indian talent Arjun Maini. The twenty-year-old racer had a good pace too, but was forced to go on an escape route following to a contact with a rival.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:
"The seventh position taken by Alessio Lorandi makes me particularly proud as the rookie from Brescia worked well with the technical staff and was able to fulfill his potential and secured a solid seventh position that guarantees him the first points in the category. I feel for the contact that did not allow Arjun Maini to play his cards until the end".
