FIA F2 Championship, Sochi Autodrom, Sprint Race Report
The Team Trident drivers Arjun Maini and Alessio Lorandi had no luck in the rainy race 2 of Sochi. The Italian was involved in an contact, while the Indian did not make it to the top-ten.
Team Trident is leaving Sochi, the temporary venue close to the Black Sea, and home to the eleventh round of the Formula 2 season, with a result below expectations, even considering the excellent seventh place scored by rookie Alessio Lorandi in the Feature Race held yesterday. The driver from Brescia, who took off from the front row went wide at the first corner, collecting dirt on his tires on an escape road. A few hundred meters after, the twenty-year-old was unable to avoid making contact with a rival, which resulted in a double retirement. It is a real pity since the Italian driver could have capped a weekend started so positively with a brilliant result. Arjun Maini was not lucky as well despite the fact that, at times, he put up a good race pace. Eventually, he was unable to bring home a top-ten position. The lack of experience of the Indian rookie on the wet certainly made everything more complicated as the rain started to fall insistently and forced the drivers to switch to rain tires. Team Trident is already focusing on the next goal, which is to prepare with maximum concentration the final round of the season scheduled for the end of November at the Yas Marina track in the United Arab Emirates.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:
"I'm not satisfied with today's Sprint Race. Arjun Maini failed to express his potential also because of the track conditions, while Alessio Lorandi, who started from the front row, crashed in an accident on the first lap. The expectations were obviously very different! Now we will prepare to give our 100 percent in the final round of the season at Yas Marina."
