F3 TRIDENT - BARCELONA RACE TWO

Team Trident scored its first podium of the season today as Niko Kari scored a third place at Circuit de Catalunya. The Finnish driver started from the first position on the grid. Pedro Piquet and Devlin DeFrancesco concluded the Sprint Race out of the top-10.

In the second race scheduled for the FIA Formula 3 Championship on the Catalan circuit of Montmelò, located just outside Barcelona, Team Trident went back to full form with a convincing performance and the third place secured by Niko Kari in the sprint race. The 19-year-old Finn, who started from the first position on the grid, held second place for most of the day. Only in the final laps, his pace dropped in some sections of the Catalan track and that forced him to give up a position.

Team Trident is definitely satisfied for having achieved a podium finish in the inaugural event for the FIA Formula 3 Championship, which featured a very high competitive level. For Kari, this is certainly a very promising start to the season. On the other hand, Pedro Piquet and Devlin DeFrancesco were conditioned by their position on the starting grid. Starting from the 26th and 23rd place on the grid respectively, Piquet and DeFrancesco ended up in P16 and P20, showing some good overtaking moves.

Now the championship is off to a month-long break with. The next event scheduled from June 22nd to 24th at Circuit Paul Ricard. The Trident Team technical staff will analyze the data collected during the weekend so to prepare their trip on the French track, which also hosted one of the three pre-season test sessions.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager

“We are pleased to have started the new edition of the FIA Formula 3 Championship with a podium, a result in line with the excellent tradition of Team Trident in the series. Niko Kari ran a perfect race, but his pace in the final stages of the race dropped a bit in a couple of areas. Regarding the race of Pedro Piquet and Devlin DeFrancesco, their results today were certainly conditioned by the grid positions. However, they both ran at a solid race pace, leaving a positive feeling.”
