F3 TRIDENT - DRIVER ANNOUNCEMENT 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship

Team Trident to field Olli Caldwell in 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship

The 17-year-old from Hampshire will make his FIA Formula 3 debut in 2020 under the Team Trident banner. He is coming from a fifth place in the 2019 Formula Regional European Championship.

Olli Caldwell will make his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Team Trident in 2020. The 17-year-old British talent impressed the team's technical staff in last October's postseason test and at the Macau Grand Prix. He will now step up to a full-season challenge with the Italian squad, traditionally a benchmark of the series. Caldwell is coming from the Formula Regional European Championship, where he ended up 5th overall in points and collected one win at Imola in addition to seven podium finishes and one pole position. In 2018, Caldwell entered a double program in the Italian and ADAC Formula 4 championships taking third and seventh place respectively with an impressive score of 5 wins, 15 podium finishes and 3 pole positions.

The goal for the talented young prospect is now to quickly gain the right chemistry with the championship, take full advantage of the experience of Team Trident and become a frontrunner in a series that is considered a pivotal step in a driver’s path to Formula 1. Caldwell, a fan of diving and tennis, is looking forward to following in the footsteps of his racing heroes, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo.

“I am very happy to be joining Trident this year in FIA F3. The team has the capability to win races and I’m looking forward to pushing the car to the limit and collecting trophies for them.”

Maurizio Salvadori, Team Principal:

“Olli Caldwell is one of the most promising and appreciated prospects in British motorsport. We had the chance to evaluate his skills and qualities last year in post-season testing at Valencia and in the Macau Grand Prix. Despite being a rookie, Caldwell impressed our technical staff on both occasions. I am sure that all the right ingredients are in place for him to do extremely well with Team Trident, which will give its 100 per cent to support him in such a competitive series like the FIA Formula 3 Championship".

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

By announcing Olli Caldwell, we are finally completing our FIA Formula 3 Championship line-up for 2020. This is a very challenging series in which he will join Devlin Defrancesco and Lirim Zendeli, who both are at their second season. Caldwell impressed the team's staff for his technical and sportsmanship skills. He is extremely promising and professional. I am sure that we got all the best foundations for a positive and exciting season.”
