FIA F3 Championship, Spielberg, Race Two Report
Team Trident returns from the trip to the Red Bull Ring with a bitter taste at the end of a race that let expectations down. Pedro Piquet spun, while Niko Kari damaged his car in contact at the start of the race. On the other hand, Devlin Defrancesco had an impressive run.
In the second race of the FIA Formula 3 weekend at Red Bull Ring in Spielberg track, perched in the mountain region of Styria, Team Trident could not score a result in line with expectations due to specific episodes that hampered the running for its drivers. Brazilian Pedro Piquet, who started from the second row, spun out at the first corner when he was in third place. After restarting from the last position, the second-generation racer finished in 15th position. Niko Kari didn't have flawless race management too. The 19-year-old Finnish driver damaged his car in a first-lap and completed the race with a precarious set-up that did not allow him to go beyond the eighth place. On the other hand, 19-year-old Ontario driver Devlin Defrancesco proved quite impressive as he made a convincing comeback from seventeenth on the grid to ninth place under the checkered flag. The goal of Team Trident is now to quickly leave behind a race that stands as a missed opportunity to improve positions in the team and driver session. The teams will focus on the next round scheduled in two weeks at Silverstone.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager
"We are disappointed with this day which didn't reward our expectations. Our drivers were not able to finalize the potential available, as far as Pedro Piquet and Niko Kari are concerned, due to a less than optimal race management. The Brazilian spun at the exit of the first corner while he was third, while the Finn raced with his car damaged due to contact occurred on lap 1. Positive notes came instead from the remarkable performance of Devlin Defrancesco, in clear growth and now very close to the points zone ".
