GP3 Series, Sochi Autodrom, Sprint Race Report
The German teenager David Beckmann confirmed his moment of form today by winning the Sprint Race. The other Team Trident card did not end up in the top ten.
The second race held on the Russian circuit, completing the eighth seasonal round of the GP3 Series, celebrated the return to the victory of the eighteen-year-old German Team Trident driver David Beckmann, who climbed up to the highest step of the podium for the third time in 2018. The teenager from the North Rhine region had previously won at Spa and Monza. Taking-off from the fourth position on the starting grid, he engaged in an exciting but fair battle with Joey Mawson, prevailing at the end after his opponent led most part of the action. Beckmann was very good at managing tire degradation, surprising his rival just ahead of the finishing line. On the other hand, Giuliano Alesi, who had to return to the pit lane due to a puncture, was not lucky during the Sprint Race. The Ferrari Driver Academy man fell victim to early attrition. Ryan Tveter scored a positive ninth position at the end of a solid comeback. The 24-year-old from New York had lost valuable seconds in a first-corner melee. Taking the eleventh position, Pedro Piquet completed a weekend in which he did not find the right feeling with the circuit. He was slowed by tire degradation, barely missing the points zone.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:
"We come back from Russia with another excellent result, to continue the good streak of Spa and Monza. David Beckmann's victory today is the result of an excellent vision of the race and strategy. It is no coincidence that the young German celebrated on the highest step of the podium in the last three events. Now our goal is to work with the maximum concentration and allow our drivers to aim for victory in the final round of the season Yas Marina."
