Trident Motorsport, Williams closes into the points zone

Calan Williams ended the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with an 11th place, while Richard Verschoor struggled at the back of the pack due to a technical issue.

The fourth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship came to its conclusion today at Montmelò with the running of the Feature Race, which didnt provide Trident Motorsport with much satisfaction. Richard Verschoor and Calan Williams ended the final race of the weekend outside of the points zone. The Dutchman was afflicted by a technical issue throughout the whole weekend, and that forced him to race at the back of the pack. For the teams technical staff will be a priority to solve the issue, which jeopardised the outcome of the event for the Sakhir race winner. Williams started from the ninth place on the grid and lost a few positions early but delivered a great comeback thanks to the decision to use Option tyres first and then move to Prime rubber. Once in the points zone, William stayed into the top ten until the closing stages, when due to thermal degradation, he dropped back to P11. The next Formula 2 event for Trident Motorsport will be at Monte Carlo, where the team is expected to make a prompt recovery.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Feature Race quote

“Verschoor struggled throughout the whole weekend and had a lacklustre run in the Feature Race due to a technical issue that we have to solve as quickly as possible. Regarding Williams, he started from the ninth place on the grid and lost some position in the opening stages of the race. Afterwards, he put up a great recovery drive going from Option to Prime tyres. With the latter, he showcased an impressive pace. Unfortunately, thermal degradation in the closing stages cost him a spot in the points zone.”
