Trident Motorsport claims second place in Catalunya
Trident Motorsport secured a valuable second-place finish with Roman Staněk in the FIA Formula 3 Championship Feature Race at the Spanish venue. The Czech racer now sits second in the championship standings. On the other hand, Maloney delivered a remarkable comeback.
The FIA Formula 3 Championship weekend came to its conclusion at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and the Feature Race highlighted Trident Motorsport. The team took a valuable second place with Roman Staněk, and the 18-year-old Czech got up to second place in the driver championship. For Staněk, this is an important result in the context of an impressive season so far. After finishing eighth with a great comeback in Saturday’s Sprint Race, he could not make the most out of his pole position as he lost one spot at the start. Staněk tried to fight back to the lead in a couple of occasions, taking advantage of re-starts after safety-car situations. In the final stages, he defended from Hadjar and claimed P2. With today’s result, Stank moved within six points from the series lead. So far he secured one win, one pole, two podiums and as many fastest laps. On the other hand, Trident Motorsport is holding third place in the team championship.
Besides Staněk's excellent performance, for Trident Motorsport there is the regret for the oversight that jeopardised Zane Maloney's weekend in qualifying. The Barbadian ignored a weigh-in call and was forced to start in both races from the pit lane. In the Feature Race, the 18-year-old Bridgetown native made up an impressive 17 positions, finishing in P13. Without the penalty, Maloney’s pace would have enabled him to fight at the front. Oliver Rasmussen started from the 14th position on the grid and finished in P15. The French-based Dane also showed solid pace in several situations. Now the FIA Formula 3 Championship will be off for about a month with no races or testing scheduled. The next outing will be on the first weekend of July at Silverstone. It will be the fourth round of the season.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Feature Race quote
"We are delighted for the performance put up by Staněk, who captured a great result. He was not able to take advantage of the start from the pole position, but he finished second , which is very important for his championship situation and for Trident Motorsport's position as well. Staněk delivered a really clean run, as he didn't make mistakes and defended second place in the final stages despite the degradation. Maloney had an excellent comeback race, but unfortunately, the oversight in qualifying forced him to start from the pit lane and ruined his weekend in Spain. He would have secured valuable points. Oliver Rasmussen had an hard-fought race in the middle of the pack, made good overtakes but finished outside the points zone."
