FIA F2 Championship, Abu Dhabi, Feature Race Report

In the final race of the Abu Dhabi FIA Formula 2 weekend, Bent Viscaal ended up just short of the points zone in a good recovery run, while Marino Sato completed the race at the back of the pack in an uneventful day for him.

In the Feature Race that wrapped up the 8th and final round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the renewed Yas Marina Track, the Trident Motorsport drivers didn't have a true chance to fight for the points zone due to their low positions on the starting grid. The situation required them to make a comeback that was extremely difficult to sustain in normal racing conditions. Marino Sato started from P14 but didn't have enough pace to go beyond P18. The Japanese racer lost some positions in an early melee. Bent Viscaal started from P17 on the grid and finished in the twelfth place. The Dutchman started with the medium compound tires. He was able to attack and recover positions in the final stages with the softer tires. Now Trident Motorsport will stop for a few days in Abu Dhabi to enter the post-season test, where the team will work ahead of 2022 before taking a well-deserved break. The 2022 championship will start in mid-March in Sakhir, Bahrain.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Feature Race:

Today's race didn't provide us with many surprises as both our drivers ran a solid race at the mid of the pack although they could not catch up with the group battling for points. Viscaal delivered a good comeback although he didn't make it to the top-10. We decided to adopt a different strategy for our drivers, but that didn't change the outcome of the race. We are now looking forward to a post-season test session at Yas Marina next week, which will wrap up an intense season that saw us involved on multiple fronts.
