Trident Motorsport has solid debut in home race

Lining up for the Sprint Race at Imola, all the Trident Motorsport drivers finished in the top seven positions, handing the Italian squad a total of 16 points, the highest amount in terms of the team classification today.

The FIA Formula 3 Championship kicked off its second round of the season today at Imola, with teams and drivers lining up for the Sprint Race. The Feature Race, the main for the weekend, will go underway tomorrow at 8:50. In qualifying, the Trident Motorsport drivers put up a dominant performance. Zane Maloney took pole position, while Roman Staněk scored second place and Oliver Rasmussen, making his debut with the team replacing Jonny Edgar, finished in P14. As a result of the reversal of the top-12 positions on the Race 1 starting grid, in addition to some penalties, Staněk, Maloney, and Rasmussen took off from 10th, 12th, and 14th place on the Sprint Race grid respectively.

The three Trident Motorsport drivers delivered a determined and convincing comeback race. Staněk recovered up to the fourth place, going close to his first podium of the season. The Czech racer finished two positions ahead of Maloney, claiming P6 ahead of Rasmussen. With the fourth, sixth, and seventh place scored, Trident Motorsport gained sixteen points in the first race which highlighted the team's pace and consistency at the legendary Santerno venue. The seven points secured today allowed Maloney to climb up to the seventh place in the driver championship ranking, while Staněk and Rasmussen collected their first points of the season. The Trident Motorsport drivers will now analyze the data collected today with their technical staff in preparation for the Feature Race, which will round out the second FIA Formula 3 Championship event of the year. Maloney will be on pole, with Staněk starting from the front row as well.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Sprint Race quote

"The excellent result achieved in qualifying, with Maloney and Staněk in the first two positions, forced both drivers to a comeback race due to the reversal of the first twelve positions on the grid. The drivers delivered efficiently, as they did not make mistakes in a chaotic race, and all finished in the points zone, close to the podium. The sixteen points gained make us the highest-scoring team of the day. The goal is now to maximize the result in tomorrow's race when we will have two cars on the front row."
