The seventeen year old driver and long standing Red Bull Junior Team Driver, has chosen to face his second season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with the Italian Team Trident. The fast driver, who dominated the ADAC F4 in 2020, has the potential to be a protagonist in the category.
The driver, born in Whitehaven, has been able to appreciate the qualities of the technical staff of the team in occasion of the post season test in Valencia in 2021 on the Ricardo Tormo circuit. Jonny first contact with Trident proved to be extremely positive: the young promise of English Motorsport, impressed the Italian staff thanks to his professionalism and behavior. The move to Trident, traditionally a top team in the third series championship will provide Jonny Edgar the opportunity to be among the protagonists of the category. Jonny who made his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship last year, earning 23 points and an 18th place position in the general driver classification, has an excellent curriculum vitae in Motorsport. The British driver made his most important result in 2020, when he won the ADAC F4 Championship thanks to an impressive score of six wins. Edgar has repeatedly shown that he can compete for success and is a candidate between the protagonists of the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship which will start on the Sakhir track in Bahrain on the 19th and 20th of March 2022.
Maurizio Salvadori, Trident Team Owner:
Jonny Edgar is a driver that we followed very closely last year in the Formula 3 Championship. Although he did not receive particular results, the English driver impressed us thanks to his qualities. I am therefore very happy that Johnny will be part of the Trident Team line up in 2022. I am sure that he will compete in a top championship and will be a real protagonist of the season. Edgar hit the track in the Trident car in the post-season test held last November in Valencia where we were able to appreciate his talent at the wheel, his mature behavior and his impeccable professionalism.
Jonny Edgar, 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship driver for Trident:
I am very happy to be able to race for Trident Motorsport in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship, an extremely professional team that will surely give me the possibility to compete in the top positions in the 2022 championship.
