Trident claims double top-10 finish in Regional by Alpine Montmelò event
In the second round of the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine at Barcelona, Trident achieved two top-1 finishes with two different drivers, Nikhil Bohra in race 1 and Roman Bilinski in race 2.
The team showed great pace in qualifying 1, which set the grid for the second race of the weekend on Sunday, and all the team's three drivers got in the top 10. Owen Tangavelou was third in Group B and sixth overall, while Bohra took P5 in Group B and P9 overall. Bilinski secured P5 in group A, good for a 10th spot overall. The second qualifying session saw Bohra cruise to the overall top 10 with P5 in Group B, one place ahead of Tangavelou, while Bilinski faced tough fortunes to take P21 overall.
In race 1, Bohra ended up in P8, securing four valuable points for the standings. Starting from the 21st place, Bilinski fought back to P15 while Tangavelou, who started from row 6, had a damaged suspension which prevented him from fighting at the front.
Bilinski went on to take the 8th spot in race 2 with a bold performance, while Bohra ended up in 14th place. Taking off from the third row, Tangavelou had a tough start and had to settle for P16.
Nikhil Bohra: "Overall, I think it was another pretty positive weekend. We were a little on the back foot after Friday because of the issues in FP2, but I think we bounced back quite well, and we learned a lot from this weekend. Hopefully, we can take the lessons learned forward to the next one and come back really strong at Hungaroring”.
Roman Bilinski: "We had a good last day in Barcelona and we can be proud of what we did as a team. I maximized my race, and I'm particularly happy about that. However, we're not quite where we want to be, and I'm sure that for the next races in Hungary, we are going to work so hard to be there. I'm excited for the next few rounds, we'll see how it goes."
Owen Tangavelou: "The qualifying sessions were not bad as I managed to finish in P12 and P5 respectively. In race 1, my suspension broke, and I didn't have the pace. Then, unfortunately, I changed my start procedure in Race 2 and I got wheelspin. I put the second gear and lost position in the first straight, so it was a pity, and I didn't have the pace to try to fight for the points. I’m a bit disappointed not to be battling for points. I will have a break now, and after that, we will work hard on the negative aspects of this weekend to try to be in a better position in the following races."
