Trident claims more points in Regional by Alpine Race 2 at Imola

Trident wrapped up the second event of the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship with a positive balance at Imola. On Saturday, the team brought home a valuable double points finish, and, on Sunday, the squad led by Maurizio Salvatori did it all again by placing two cars in the top-10, in reversed positions. Tim Tramnitz, who had finished in P9 on Saturday, improved to P8 in Race 2, while Leonardo Fornaroli posted an P9 finish after yesterday’s P8. Roman Bilinski concluded in P15 after ending qualifying 2 in P8 of Group B and starting from the 16th spot on the grid. It was a great satisfaction for Tramnitz and Fornaroli, as they were first and second in the rookie rankings respectively.

As happened on Saturday, Race 2 was red-flagged after a few laps, due to a huge crash that involved three cars at Tamburello. Not too much later, rain started to fall hard like already happened before the start. While the first time all drivers started on slicks, because the track was drying quickly, after the red flag rain tyres became necessary. German youngster Tramnitz clocked the fastest lap of Qualifying 2 Group B, and started in P2 overall, but didn’t find the necessary pace to fight at the front. Fornaroli, who qualified fifth in Group A, started in P10, third among rookie ad improve to P9 at the end. The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine will be back on track as the supporting act to the famed Monte Carlo Grand Prix on the May 29th weekend.

Roman Bilinski: “Difficult final day. Qualifying was looking really good until last lap, when I just got pipped by a few people in the end, which made tough the race. We faced every condition you can think of, we used slicks and wet in the same race, and we were thinking maybe going back to slicks. So, tough day again, but you are looking at it, and we are coming back at Monaco stronger”.

Tim Tramnitz: “The race was really difficult. Starting from P2 you obviously want to get at least a podium, but we struggled a little bit pace-wise, especially towards the end with wet tires. Anyway a lot of positives to take from this weekend, especially the qualifying pace. We still have to work more on race pace, but we have time to do that, and we will be stronger”.

Leonardo Fornaroli: “We had a good weekend here in Imola, and we managed to score the top-10 both in the two qualifying sessions and in the two races. This morning, after the first runs, I understood where I needed to improve, and I was ready for the last flying lap when the red flag was displayed. However, I still got another good fifth place. The race was one of the most difficult I have ever run. A few moments away from the start, a thick rainfall led us to put rain tyres on, but in the formation lap, the track dried up enough to return to slicks. During the first few laps the asphalt was very slippery, but  it was quickly improving. Then, a second shower forced us to go back to rain tyres, but only half of the track was wet, and the rest remained dry. We ended a tricky run with another spot in the points zone, for which I have to really thank the Trident team ”.
