Trident claims Rookie Title and P5 in FRECA Team Championship

Trident claimed its first title in the highly-competitive Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine in its debut season. The team, owned by Maurizio Salvadori, added the new endeavor to those in Formula 2 and Formula 3 for 2022 and took home the Rookie Title with Leonardo Fornaroli.

The final day of the season at Mugello began with qualifying 2. Fornaroli managed to set the fourth-fastest lap time of his group and took P7 on the grid. Tim Tramnitz scored P11, while Roman Bilinski made a good step compared to Saturday, moving up to P19 overall.

At the start, Fornaroli and Tramnitz lost a couple of positions, but they immediately started fighting back. On lap 6, the Italian attacked Dilano Van't Hoff, overtaking him to move into eighth place. Thanks to this maneuver, Fornaroli also handed Trident fifth place in the Team Championship.  Fornaroli then benefited from an off by competitor Dufek to mathematically clinch the Rookie Title. Meanwhile, Tramnitz and Bilinski fought hard in the middle of the pack, with the German and the Pole finishing in P14 and P25 respectively.

Trident wrapped up its first Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season with a title and P5 among the teams. The Italian operation managed to score points at all ten circuits on the calendar, taking six top-5s, 25 points finishes, and a total of 136 points. Fornaroli finished eighth overall with 83 points, and Tramnitz was 15th and fifth among rookies with four class wins. Bilinski ended up 18th overall and eighth among rookies. He also provided Trident with its first overall podium in Budapest.

Roman Bilinski: “Overall qualifying was a lot better today. In the race, I struggled a little bit but the most important thing is that Leo has done an amazing job all season and to win the rookie title for him is incredible. He really deserved it. Also, thank you very much to Trident, it’s been a really cool year, I’ve learned loads, let’s see what happens in 2023”.

Tim Tramnitz: “Qualifying was quite ok, with P6 in the group and P11 on the grid. I think we were in a good position to fight for the points, but unfortunately in the race, I just lacked a bit of pace. I also messed up the start a little bit, losing a couple of positions. Then I was kind of stuck in the train and it was really tough to get past. At the restart, we brought some excellent racing again, but I was the one who lost out and I also finished the push-to-pass quite early. Anyway, a long season has come to an end. We had some high points such as the front row in Imola, the four rookie wins, and some nice battles and races. Thank you Trident!”.

Leonardo Fornaroli: “Despite winning the rookie championship it was a difficult day. This morning in qualifying I didn't feel as good with my car as yesterday, but we still got a good fourth-fastest lap time. In the race, we dropped a bit at the start, but I never gave up and, lap after lap, I made up ground. Luck gave us a hand, as Dufek lost two positions in the final stages, so I managed to take the title. I thank my family and obviously Trident for giving me a very competitive car throughout the season. I am really proud of what they achieved in their first year in this category ”.
