Trident has positive Formula Regional by Alpine debut in Barcelona test

Lining up for the first time to open a new, challenging chapter for the team, Trident delivered a consistent performance in the collective 2-day FRECA test held at Montmelò.

Trident made its Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine debut this week at Montmelò as the team entered the first collective test for the series in 2022. The Italian squad decided to expand its operation to the Formula Regional platform starting from this season, adding a new programme to the existing ones in Formula 2 and Formula 3.

Trident fielded three cars at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the rookie trio of Roman Bilinski, Tim Tramnitz, and Leonardo Fornaroli. At the challenging Grand Prix venue, the drivers delivered an impressive performance and produced a consistent progression throughout the two-day session. The team’s testing program for the three drivers was also not impacted by the light rain that came on Wednesday morning.

Tramnitz was the fastest driver from the Trident Motorsport stable, setting a lap of 1m40.890s in the third out of four segments. The German was fifth overall and led the rookie pack. Bilinski was not far off his teammate’s time, with a best lap of 1m41.058s lap, while Fornaroli couldn’t have a real chance to use the set of new tyres due to two red flag situations late in the session. However, the Italian showed outstanding pace on older rubber.

Trident will be back on track for a 2-day test next week, as the 40-car Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine field will be moving to Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet.

Roman Bilinski:

The two days of testing were pretty solid, we learned a lot both in race and qualifying simulation. The car is feeling fast and nice to drive, I’m excited to be back in the car as soon as possible.

Tim Tramnitz:

I’m quite happy with the two days, we learned a lot, especially myself but also the team. We were always improving from the beginning and the car was getting better and better. I felt very comfortable in every condition, with new tires, and during the long runs as well.

Leonardo Fornaroli:

We definitely experienced two really positive days. We already found great pace although there is obviously room for improvement. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make the most of my new tyres, but with the older ones we performed well and that makes me really confident.
