An excellent second place rewards Freddie Slater's awesome chase

The FIA Formula 3 Championship returned to the legendary Monza circuit, which this weekend hosts the eighth round of the season of the series. In a particularly close qualifying session divided into two groups, the Trident Motorsport drivers experienced some very intense moments.

Freddie Slater, competing in the second group, took pole position, while Noah Strømsted posted the ninth fastest time in the first session. Matteo De Palo's session proved more challenging. Initially posting the fastest time in the first group, which would have earned him second place on the grid, the 18-year-old Roman was subsequently disqualified for a technical irregularity.

Due to the reversal of the top twelve times in the standings, Freddie Slater started the Sprint Race from the twelfth spot. Noah Strømsted started sixteenth, while Matteo De Palo was forced to start from thirtieth.

The lights went out, sparking an extremely close race. Slater, immediately in a fighting mood,  gained a position on the first lap and moved up to eleventh. The eighteen-year-old Englishman then began a steady climb, taking advantage of his car's pace and staying clear of the numerous collisions that characterized the early stages of the race.

After the first neutralization, Slater continued to climb the order. At the second restart, the Audi junior driver maintained a particularly cautious stance, avoiding getting involved in the brawl and taking advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves. From fifth place, he continued to attack, moving up to fourth place at the end of lap fourteen.

On the next lap, Slater consolidated his position before launching a new attack at the first chicane on lap sixteen. Despite landing two wheels on the grass, the Trident Motorsport driver managed to keep the car straight and complete the maneuver, moving up to third place.

On the final lap, Slater attempted a decisive attack at the first braking point, gaining another position and moving up to second place. The Englishman then attempted to challenge the race leader until the checkered flag, finishing the Monza Sprint Race in second place.

This is a crucial result for the championship, allowing Slater to strengthen his lead in the overall FIA Formula 3 Championship Drivers' standings. The Englishman now boasts a seventeen-point advantage over his closest rival.

Noah Strømsted also made a comeback race. Starting from sixteenth place, the nineteen-year-old Dane lost ground in the early stages, sliding to twenty-first place. Strømsted, however, reacted with determination, taking advantage of the subsequent safety car periods to gradually recover ground.

After being involved in a collision during the first restart, following the deployment of the safety car, which dropped him to twenty-fifth place, the Trident Motorsport driver began his comeback once again, climbing to sixteenth place by the checkered flag.

Matteo De Palo, forced to start from the last row following his disqualification in qualifying, faced a race of intense recovery. The eighteen-year-old from Rome gained positions already in the opening laps, climbing up to fifteenth place in the central stages of the Sprint Race.

Toward the end, however, the McLaren junior driver lost ground due to debris from another car, which lodged itself in the flat floor just under the left side of his car. Despite unbalanced aerodynamics, De Palo did his best to finish the race, close to the back of the pack.

The Trident Motorsport drivers will now analyze today's events with the technical staff as part of their usual preparations for tomorrow's Feature Race at the Monza circuit.

Freddie drove a very mature and intelligent race, managing the various neutralizations well and carefully choosing when to attack. This result allows him to strengthen his championship lead. Noah Strømsted had to fight back after losing ground in the early stages, and a collision further penalized him. Matteo De Palo made up several positions, although he was unable to maintain his pace in the final stages due to debris."
