Bahrain, points fade away in the finale for Meguetounif

The second round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship kicked off in the Sakhir desert, with the Sprint Race held today. The qualifying session held on the Bahrain International Circuit had a double-faced outcome for Trident Racing, with Sami Meguetounif author of a positive seventh time, while Max Esterson signed the seventeenth mark. The inversion of the top ten positions on the grid in the Sprint Race allowed Sami Meguetounif to start from fourth on the starting grid.
However, when the lights went out, the twenty-year-old from Marseille was unable to take advantage of it, slipping to eighth place. During the Sprint Race, the French driver experienced excessive brake wear, which prevented him from attacking in the finale and going beyond fourteenth place. Esterson, who started from seventeenth on the grid, was caught in a tangle in the early, hectic stages. The American driver pitted to replace the damaged front wing, sliding to the back of the field. Despite having a good pace, the twenty-two-year-old was forced to give up due to technical problems with his car.
The Trident Motorsport technical staff will now use the data collected in the Sprint Race to prepare the Feature Race, scheduled for tomorrow at 2:25 p.m. local time, CET +1, a few hours before the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, commented: “Unfortunately, in today’s Sprint Race we were unable to score points, despite having the potential. Meguetounif, who started from the second row, had excessive brake wear that prevented him from attacking in the final stages, while Esterson retired due to a technical problem after having had contact during the first lap, damaging his front wing, which was replaced in the pit lane”.
