Barcelona, ready for a competitive weekend

After Imola and Monte Carlo, here comes Barcelona. Coming from the ups and downs of the Santerno circuit and the fascinating streets of Monaco, the FIA Formula 2 Championship returns to a classic track this weekend at Montmelò, much-anticipated event. The Catalan track has no secrets, as it is also home to collective test sessions, but it usually provides genuine responses, which tend to factually reflect the values of the field.

It is no coincidence that Barcelona, which includes slow, medium speed, and fast corners, as well as having two long straights, is often chosen as a test bed. Montmelò hosted a collective testing session this year from April 23rd to 24th.

Trident Motorsport drivers Richard Verschoor and Roman Staněk set the seventh and thirteenth lap times respectively, showing a good feeling on the Iberian track. The stars of the series will be able to leverage the data and information collected in April, but this year the FIA Formula 2 Championship is very balanced and surprises are the order of the day. Nothing will be taken for granted, with the Catalan track rewarding those who worked best.

The drivers and technical staff are very determined to have a competitive weekend, the preparation work has been thorough as usual. Now it will be the track to provide its answers!

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “This championship still has a lot to offer, given that so far it has been very balanced and has not yet expressed clear values. Much can still happen, the season is long and so far only two drivers have won more than once. We managed to find success with Staněk in Melbourne and we came very close with Verschoor in Monte Carlo. Only a technical problem denied the Dutchman victory, although he deserved to climb to the top step of the podium. We are going to Barcelona with the utmost determination and looking for a competitive weekend. We will race on a very technical track that everyone knows very well from the tests in April, but I am sure there will be surprises!".

The FIA Formula 2 Championship will start on Friday at 11.05, with the 45-minute free practice session. Qualifying is scheduled on the same day, starting at 15:55. Saturday will host the Sprint Race, at 14.15. The Feature Race, which will conclude the weekend, will start on Sunday at 11.35. The activity on the track will be broadcasted live by Sky Sports F.1.
