Esterson takes a place in an eventful race

The Feature Race that concluded the eighth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship season, held on the historic Silverstone track, brought no points to Trident Motorsport. A qualifying session that saw Sami Meguetounif and Max Esterson post the thirteenth and fourteenth times respectively called for a comeback race, but the rain fallen before the race forced both drivers to deal with precarious grip conditions.
The adverse weather conditions in the Northamptonshire countryside complicated the race for the Trident Motorsport drivers. Having to deal with poor traction, both Meguetounif and Esterson had a less than perfect start and lacked the right race pace.
Thanks to the neutralization of the race, first with the Virtual Safety Car and then behind the Safety Car, Max Esterson managed to gain some ground on his opponents. At the restart, the twenty-two-year-old American made his way, crossing the finish line in thirteenth place.
On the contrary, Sami Meguetounif made several mistakes, receiving a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits. Switching to slick tires, the twenty-year-old from Marseille spun, slipping to a final eighteenth place. The FIA Formula 2 Championship is now taking a week off, with the next event scheduled for the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit on the penultimate weekend of July.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “We are not very happy with today’s result. Both drivers had big traction problems and, except in the slow corners, they didn’t have the pace to recover. Estersondid his best and climbed up to thirteenth place. Sami Meguetounif had on top an electrical problem that slowed him down further. It was a difficult weekend in which we never had any performance. Now we have to react after such a difficult weekend”.
