Roman Staněk finishes seventh, hands Trident Motorsport valuable points in Monaco

Trident Motorsport secured a valuable seventh-place finish at Monte Carlo, as the Feature Race concluded the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend at the iconic street circuit. Roman Staněk achieved a very important points finish, while Clément Novalak could not achieve the points zone, ending up in P17.

Novalak and Staněk started P15 and P22 respectively and had a positive start. Novalak passed two drivers early, moving into P13, while Staněk kept his position. On lap 8, Novalak, who started on option tyres, came to the pit lane to make the mandatory tire change and switch to Primes. A problem with the left front wheel cost the Frenchman a few seconds. He re-entered the track in the middle of the pack and finished the Feature Race far from the points zone.

On lap 22, a crash at Massenet by Jack Doohan caused the race to be stopped and changed the dynamics of the field, benefiting the drivers who had not yet made the change. While Novalak dropped to the middle of the pack, Staněk jumped to P8, which later became P7 due to a penalty assessed to a rival. Staněk defended the position well, securing important points that give the 19-year-old Czech confidence and allow Trident Motorsport to improve in the championship standings. The series will be back for the next round of the season next weekend at Barcelona.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Feature Race quote

"We are delighted to have claimed important points with Staněk. This is a result that gives confidence to our driver and allows Trident Motorsport to improve its championship position. He showed a good race pace, did not make any mistakes and was helped by the red flag situation on lap 25, which allowed him to perform the tire change and return to the track in P8 when the race resumed.  Due to the penalty incurred by Martins, he then moved up to P7, which he defended tenaciously until the end. Novalak also had a good race but was hampered by the dynamics of the race and by the interruption from which Staněk benefitted instead. Today's points finish give us even more determination in the preparation work for the round at Barcelona next weekend."
