Great weekend turns into an ill-fated finale for Trident at Paul Ricard
An excellent weekend for the Trident team at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet came to an unfortunate conclusion in race 2. The Italian squad was putting up a starring run in the sixth round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season, achieving a podium finish in the first race on Saturday.
On Sunday Michael Belov managed to establish himself in the lead of a wet Group B qualifying despite rainfall hitting especially sector 3 at the beginning. The Trident driver made the difference, edging out his pursuers by more than 0.8s to gain another excellent front row for Race 2.
Unfortunately, at the start, Belov was involved in a contact that broke his rear right suspension. On a wet circuit, Nicola Lacorte and Ruiqi Liu recovered well from the back of the grid, climbing up over ten positions to 17th and 18th place respectively.
Strengthened by the second podium of the season, the Trident team can now enjoy a few weeks of summer holidays, before returning to Imola on the September 8th weekend for the seventh round of the championship.
