Montmeló, another race without points in Catalonia

The Feature Race, which concluded the sixth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, held on the technical Montmeló track, did not bring any points to Trident Motorsport. A qualifying session that saw Max Esterson and Sami Meguetounif post the sixteenth and eighteenth times respectively did not leave, in normal race conditions, many prospects of earning points for the drivers of the Ossona-based team.

And so it was. Both Trident Motorsport drivers started on Soft-compound tyres to try to make up positions. Meguetounif made a promising start, getting to the edge of the top 10 before changing to the Hard-compound tyres. Despite showing a race pace in line with the best, the twenty-year-old from Marseille was unable to make his way, finishing twelfth.

Max Esterson’s race mirrored the Frenchman’s. Starting from the sixteenth spot on the grid, the twenty-two-year-old American was the protagonist of a solid and flawless race. Unfortunately, the layout of the Catalan track, where it is difficult to overtake, did not help the American driver, who crossed the finish line in fourteenth position in a race ended behind the safety car.

After three intense weeks, the FIAFormula 2 Championship is now taking a break. The engines of the single-seaters of the junior series will restart in four weeks at the Red Bull Ring. The fascinating circuit that winds through the heights of Spielberg, in Austria, will be the stage for the seventh seasonal event.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “We didn’t score any points in this final race in Montmeló. Our drivers’ starting positions made recovery very complicated. The dynamics of the race also didn’t offer many chances to change things with strategy. Our drivers showed a competitive pace at times, but it wasn’t enough to reach the top ten.”
