Mugello, Trident wrap up the season with three top-6 finishes

Trident’s debut year in Formula 4 was marked by numerous challenges, alongside some success. The 2026 Italian Championship season ended at Mugello, where the Ossona-based team fielded Augustus Toniolo, Florentin Hattemer, Bernardo Bernoldi, Lucas Pasquinetti, Dominik Šimek and Yibei Sun, the latter having already made his E4 debut at Monza.

Following a decent qualifying session, the three races confirmed - and perhaps even elevated - the level of performance reached by Toniolo. The 15-year-old from Paraná finished in the top six in every race; his talent shone brightest in the second race, where he fought back from 12th to 5th, executing two spectacular overtakes around the outside at the San Donato corner.

Toniolo also handled himself well in the final race, held on a wet track, where he finished sixth, matching his result from the first race. He secured a total of 48 points across the three races, bringing his season tally to 158, enough to place him within the top-20 in the standings. Notably, Augustus remained in the top-10 throughout the final three rounds. Had he maintained this pace for the entire season, he would have comfortably finished among the top-6 in the championship.

Alongside Toniolo, Hattemer and Bernoldi also qualified for the final race. The Swiss driver performed well, finishing just outside the points in the second race, while in the third, had it not been for contact with another competitor, he could have achieved a better result than his eventual 12th place finish. As for Bernoldi, his best result of the weekend was a P17 clinched in race 1.

While Pasquinetti (third among those eliminated) and Sun (fifth) came very close to securing the final, Šimek also had every chance to make it, and even strongly; however, due to two separate incidents that occurred while he was running within the points-paying positions, he failed to secure the result he deserved.
