Tenth place with Max Esterson in Styria

The FIA Formula 2 Championship’s seventh act of the season, on the Red Bull Ring in the Styrian hills, opened with the Sprint Race. Since the qualifying session, the Trident Motorsport drivers Sami Meguetounif and Max Esterson did not find a perfect feeling with the Austrian track, obtaining the thirteenth and nineteenth times respectively.

When the lights went out, both drivers got away well. However, during the second lap, Sami Meguetounif was involved in an accident. After hooking up with an opponent, the twenty-year-old from Marseille vaulted and finished the race upside down. Fortunately,  Meguetounif came out of the car unharmed thanks to the sturdiness of the car. Max Esterson's single-seater was forced to stop and let the group pass by as the road in front of him was blocked.

The sole survivor of the Trident Racing team, Max Esterson started a comeback race. Taking advantage of a second neutralization, the twenty-two-year-old American fought his way up to tenth place, almost reaching the points positions, showing a solid race pace at times. In view of tomorrow's Feature Race, scheduled for 10:00, the Trident Racing drivers will be able to take advantage of the mandatory pit stop and the strategy to aim for the points.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: "The incident during the second lap cost Sami Meguetounif a retirement, after performing reasonably well in qualifying, and ruined Max Esterson's race, as he had to stop with the line blocked. The American driver recovered to tenth place after a solid recovery race."
