Three points for Trident Motorsport in fiery Sakhir race

For the second round of the season, the FIA Formula 3 Championship returned to one of its most classic stages, the Bahrain International Circuit. Qualifying in the Sakhir desert track saw the Trident Motorsport drivers standing out.scored his second pole position after the one earned at the season-opener in Melbourne. Charlie Wurz signed the third-fastest time, while Noah Strømsted set the seventh. By virtue of the inversion of the top twelve positions in qualifying on the Sprint Race grid, Strømsted, Wurz and Câmara started from sixth, tenth and twelfth respectively in the shorter race.

The chaotic first stages of the Sprint Race did not benefit the Trident Racing drivers, with Strømsted and Wurz slipping to the middle of the pack. Touched by an opponent during the opening laps, Charlie Wurz lost further ground. Nonetheless, Alex’s son was the protagonist of a consistent recovery. Thanks to the better management of his hard tyres, Wurz crossed the finish line of the Sprint Race in ninth place, right ahead of Noah Strømsted, also the author of an intense and flawless race. Due to a stalemate on the grid, Rafael Câmara dropped to the back of the group. Far from giving up, the Brazilian gave life to an intense comeback. Consistent and fast, Câmara benefitted also from the two neutralization phases to recover further ground. Protagonising numerous overtakes,  the Trident Racing driver finished the Sprint Race in twelfth place, maintaining the lead in the overall standings of the FIA Formula 3 Championship.

The good overall performance in the shorter race will act as a spur ahead of the Feature Race, scheduled for tomorrow at 12:55 local time, CET +1, which will close the FIA Formula 3 Championship event in Bahrain.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, commented: “The high temperatures affected, as expected, the first race held on the Sakhir track, creating degradation problems for the drivers with the hard compound tyres. Wurz’s ninth position and Strømsted’s tenth allow us to move up the standings by three points, while we await tomorrow’s Feature Race where our riders will start in a more advanced position and will have a better chance of playing their cards. Câmara was the author of a solid comeback, but losing positions at the start prevented him from entering the top ten”.
