To Jeddah to have a competitive weekend

To Jeddah to have a competitive weekend

Relentlessly, FIA Formula 2 Championship is back on track next weekend, on the shores of the Red Sea. The Trident Motorsport drivers will tackle the very fast Jeddah street circuit in what will be the third round of the season. Scarcely seven days after the appointment in Bahrain, Sami Meguetounif and Max Esterson will be engaged in the first back-to-back trip of the season in the Middle East. The series’ second double visit to the Middle East will take place at the end of the year for the final stages in Losail and Yas Marina. For both drivers, it will be their first experience on the Arabian track.

Despite being a street circuit, the Jeddah track has extremely high average speeds. With a length of 6,147 km, the circuit that winds through the Arabian city is the second-longest in the calendar and features no less than twenty-seven corners. The Ossona-based team and its drivers Meguetounif and Esterson aim to have a competitive and more consistent weekend than what they experienced in Bahrain.

The objective will be to score the first points of the season. Despite showing encouraging performances, Trident Motorsport did not collect results in line with the potential expressed in the first two rounds of the FIA Formula 2 Championship held in Melbourne and Sakhir. Furthermore, there is a good omen: on the Jeddah track, the Ossona-based team scored their first win of the season last year.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, commented: “We are dealing with the first demanding back-to-back trip of the year. Our drivers have no experience on the Jeddah track, therefore they will have to make the most of the free practice session to find the necessary references on the track. The technical staff will support them with the utmost care, the round has been prepared with great meticulousness and we ambition to prove ourselves competitive in the three days on Arabian soil”.

The engines of the FIA Formula 2 Championship single-seaters will start on Friday at 12:55 when the 45-minute free practice session is scheduled. Qualifying is scheduled for the same day, at 18:00. Saturday will be the turn of the Sprint Race, at 18:15. The Feature Race, which will conclude the weekend, will start on Sunday at 16:25. The on-track activity will be broadcast live on Sky Sport F1. Times are in local time (GMT +3).
