Trident claims podium finish with Bohra in opening Imola weekend

The opening round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine got underway at Imola with Trident securing a podium finish in the second race of the weekend. Making his debut in the series, Nikhil Bohra had an excellent run in qualifying 2 with P6 overall (and P3 in his group), before fighting his way among the front runners to secure third place in Race 2.

In the first race, Bohra finished in P9, which handed him more valuable points that allow him to sit in P3 in the driver standings.

Owen Tangavelou completed both races with P16 and P14 respectively, but the Frenchman got up to the fourth place in race 2 after starting from row 4. He had a good progression until contact by another driver at Tamburello cost him the chance to deliver a brilliant result. Roman Bilinski was hit by electronic issues during the whole weekend. He was thus prevented from showing his full potential and had to retire in both races.

Nikhil Bohra: “Yesterday’s race was quite difficult. It was the first one in the championship and obviously, I didn’t know fully what to expect, so I definitely didn’t do the best job I could. Going into the day, I knew what  needed to change and to improve, and I think I did it definitely today. It is shown by the result and from the outside perspective as well. I’m really happy with the step we made just in one day, and this makes me excited to see what we can do in the whole season.”

Roman Bilinski: A weekend with a lot of potential, so I guess this is the positive to take from it. We gave everything, but things that just were out of our control happened. It was just very unfortunate for us. We know we are fast, the team is pushing, and we know we will be strong at Barcelona. We'll try to give everything there and bounce back from this weekend.

Tangavelou: “In these two races, I showed I can play at the front and the team did a great job. Now we are looking forward to Barcelona, to get some good results.
