Trident ends up far from points zone on home track

The FIA Formula 2 Championship kicked off its 11th round of the season at the legendary Italian venue, with the F2 drivers competing in the Sprint Race today. In the qualifying session, Trident Motorsport drivers Richard Verschoor and Roman Staněk posted the 19th and 20th fastest lap respectively, and the only option for them was a comeback drive.

There was a multi-car collision at the start, from which the Trident Motorsport drivers emerged unscathed, moving to P16 (Verschoor) and P18 (Staněk). The race saw several battles, with multiple changes of position.  Verschoor and Staněk kept a solid pace and finished in P14 and P15 respectively. Unfortunately, the backward position on the starting grid negatively affected their results.

There will be more opportunities for the Trident Motorsport drivers to do well in the Feature Race, scheduled for today at 10:05. The mandatory tire change will allow them to make a difference with race strategies.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “It was a hard-fought race, with heated battles. The performance gaps between cars were small and it was not easy to recover for those, like our drivers, who started from the back. Unfortunately, we had problems making the most of qualifying and the drivers struggled, falling too far behind. Having tyre changes and the possibility of implementing strategies could give our drivers a better chance of recovering in tomorrow's Feature Race”.
