Trident misses the points zone with both cars

In the Feature Race that concluded the fourteenth and final round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship season, held on the scenic track created in the marina district of Yas Island, the Trident Motorsport drivers failed to finish in the points. The seventeenth place on the starting grid for Max Esterson and the nineteenth for Christian Mansell predicted an uphill race for the Ossona team’s drivrs. And so it was.

The technical staff elaborated a different strategy for the two drivers, with the Australian on Option tyres (with softer compound) while the American started on Prime harder tyres. Christian Mansell, after a good start, was called to the pits for the tire change after only seven laps. Max Esterson, on his side, stayed on track until ten laps from the end and, shortly after rejoining, momentarily set the fastest lap of the race. Mansell received a five-second penalty for a track limits violation that cost him some positions. The race did not feature any neutralizations or incidents that impacted his course and saw Mansell and Esterson finish the last race of 2024 in fifteenth and sixteenth place respectively.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager - Feature Race quote:“Our drivers drove a solid race, without any mistake. From this point of view, we are satisfied. We chose two different strategies to try to optimize the opportunities provided by a race that, on the contrary, proved to be linear overall. The qualifying result certainly had a negative impact on today’s results, from which it was unrealistic to expect much more. Now we will focus on the post-season test session, the first step of the 2025 campaign!”.
