Trident Motorsport closes into points zone in first UAE race

The FIA Formula 2 Championship began its 13th and final round of the season at the scenic Yas Marina circuit, with the F2 drivers entering the Sprint Race.

The outcome of the qualifying session had an impact on the results achieved by the Trident Motorsport drivers. Roman Staněk did not go further than P15, while rookie Paul Aron scored P21. The Sprint Race had a linear trend for the team, with both drivers showing a solid race pace. When the lights went out, Czech racer Staněk made a good getaway and moved close to the top ten.

As the laps went by, the positions got consolidated and Staněk stabilized in P12. The shutdown of his car's engine in the formation lap, forced rookie Paul Aron to start from the pit lane at the back of the pack. The 19-year-old Estonian had a positive impact in his first series outing and managed to climb up to P16 with an encouraging race pace.

The Sprint Race was marred by a contact at the start, with a car remaining stuck on the racing line which caused the intervention of the safety car. The Feature Race, which will conclude the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend in the United Arab Emirates, is scheduled for tomorrow at 13.15 local time.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Sprint Race:

“The result of today's race is certainly impacted by the outcome of qualifying, which saw both of our drivers far from the top ten. Staněk delivered a good start, came close to the top ten, and then finished in twelfth position. Aron had a certainly positive run in his first race in the series, which started from the pit lane after his car had shut down ahead of the formation lap. Paul made no mistakes and finished in P16 as the goal was to gain experience in the category. Now, we will focus on tomorrow's race, where strategies linked to tire choices will give our drivers a better chance to recover."
