Trident Motorsport joins Sebastian Wheldon in the 2007 FIA F3 Championship
Trident Motorsport is pleased to announce the agreement reached with Sebastian Wheldon, who will compete in the 2027 FIA Formula 3 Championship season with the Milan-based team, headquartered in Ossona. The seventeen-year-old American driver, who also holds British and Irish citizenships, will move to the F3 series after a 2026 season as a key player in the Formula Regional European Championship, where he finished a runner-up.
For Sebastian Wheldon, 2027 will represent a new and important chapter in his career, following a growth path that has taken him from the American junior series to the main European championships. Sebastian began his career in karting in the United States, gaining solid experience before moving to single-seaters.
Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on February 1, 2009, Wheldon made his single-seater debut in 2023 in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series, immediately winning the title thanks to six wins, ten pole positions, ten fastest laps, and thirteen podiums in sixteen races. In 2024, he continued his growth in the YACademy Winter Series, finishing second, before moving on to the USF Juniors, where he scored four wins and nine podiums, finishing third in the overall standings.
2025 marked his move to Europe. After competing in the F4 Middle East Championship, Wheldon completed the full season of the Italian Formula 4 and E4 Championship. In the Italian championship, the American driver scored six wins, three pole positions, and nine podiums, finishing third overall. In the E4 Championship, he scored one win and three podiums, finishing fourth. He also participated in the FIA F4 World Cup in Macau, finishing fourth.
In 2026, Wheldon made the leap to Formula Regional. In the first part of the season, he competed in the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy, taking one pole position and three podiums to finish fifth overall. He then entered the Formula Regional European Championship, winning four races and taking a total of eight podiums and four pole positions, which earned him vice champion status. His arrival at Trident Motorsport will therefore represent the next step in a constantly climbing career.
After gaining experience on European circuits and finishing 2026 as a key player in Formula Regional, Sebastian Wheldon is now preparing to take on the new challenge of the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager at Trident Motorsport: “We are delighted to announce our agreement with Sebastian Wheldon for the 2027 FIA Formula 3 Championship season.
