Trident Motorsport score top-5 with Bortoleto

For Trident Motorsport, the goal for the final Feature Race of the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship was co secure the teams’ title after winning the Driver Championship with Gabriel Bortoleto. And at the start of the day, only four points separated the team from its goal.

Unfortunately, however, the Feature Race immediately proved ill-fated for the Italian squad, which was starting from pole with Oliver Goethe. The 18-year-old German driver of Danish descent did not start due to a broken accelerator pedal during the formation lap. Outnumbered, Trident Motorsport also missed the points zone with Leonardo Fornaroli, who was penalized five seconds for forcing a rival off the track.

The fifth place posted by new champion Gabriel Bortoleto, who set the fastest lap but also lost spots going wide at the first chicane, was not enough for Trident Motorsport to seal the deal in the Team Championship. Still, the season was an absolutely  excellent one. The 18-year-old Brazilian rookie achieved his first career title with a 45-point lead over the second-placed driver.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Feature Race quote:

"An issue with the accelerator pedal on the car driven by Goethe, who was starting from pole position, and the five-second penalty assessed to Leonardo Fornaroli, did not allow us to fight for the teams’ title. We wrapped up  the last Feature Race of the season with a fifth place and the fastest lap, both achieved by 2023 Driver Champion Gabriel Bortoleto. He was able to celebrate a really deserved title as he eventually topped his closest contender by 45 points".
