Trident out of the points zone with both cars

The FIA Formula 2 Championship got underway with the Sprint Race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as the sixth round of the season kicked off at the Spanish venue today. Right from the qualifying session, Trident Motorsport drivers Richard Verschoor and Roman Staněk could not find a good feeling with the track. As a consequence, the Czech driver scored P21, while the Dutchman ended up in P19.

Starting from the last two rows on the grid clearly had a negative impact on the chances of doing well for the Trident Motorsport drivers, who had an uneventful race, far from the leading positions. Staněk committed some track limit violations and finished in the last position, while Verschoor climbed up to P16. It was difficult to ask for more from him on a track where it is traditionally difficult to overtake.

There will certainly be greater opportunities for the Trident Motorsport drivers in the Feature Race. Despite the backward position on the grid, the weekend’s second race, scheduled for tomorrow at 11.35, will offer room for strategy with a mandatory pit stop.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Sprint Race Quote:“The result of the qualifying session compromised any chance of doing well in the Sprint Race, where there is no room for strategies and to recovery in general. We will have more opportunities tomorrow in the Feature Race, but we will have to make choices that can make a difference. Verschoor's race pace today was promising, while Staněk had a few too many issues with the track limits."
