Trident shines in the Middle East Regional Championship
It was a high-quality weekend for the Trident team in the Middle East Regional Championship, held at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. Competing in this championship for the first time, the team led by Maurizio Salvadori had to get to know the new Tatuus GEN2, the new Toyota engine, and a new circuit where they had never raced with the Regional. Despite all these unknowns, the team responded very well with its three rookie drivers. Maksimilian Popov posted the third and fifth fastest times in the two qualifying sessions, earning a well-deserved podium finish (third place) in the first race.
Popov then scored further points with eighth place in race 2 and sixth in race 3. Andrija Kostic, ninth and twelfth in qualifying, finished twelfth in the first race, a position that allowed him to start from pole position in race 2. Due to an error in the starting procedure, Kostic was unfortunately penalized with a drive-through while he was leading. In race three, the Serbian took the checkered flag in an excellent eighth place. Kai Daryanani was on the rise: nineteenth in race 1, he made a great recovery in race 2, finishing ninth, but a 5" penalty eliminated him from the points zone, while he had to retire in the final race.
