Trident takes podium finish with Ramos
The FIA Formula 3 Championship got back on track at the legendary Monza circuit, home to the final round of the 2024 series this weekend. In an extremely competitive qualifying session, conditioned by drivers who slowed their pace in the final stages, Trident Motorsport put up a solid team effort. Leonardo Fornaroli set the fastest lap time, while Ramos was third in the first group. Sami Meguetounif was also competitive in the second group, setting the second-fastest lap.
Demoted four positions at the start for having kept a slow pace in qualifying, Fornaroli started from P16 in the Sprint Race, while Ramos took off from P4 in front of Meguetounif. At the start, the Trident Motorsport drivers had no particular issue, with Meguetounif quickly moving up to fourth place ahead of Ramos, while Fornaroli jumped to P14. A three-car contact in the opening stages brought out the safety car, which stayed on track until the end of the sixth lap. At the restart, Ramos took sixth place, while Meguetounif dropped to seventh and Fornaroli moved up to tenth. In the central stages, another multi-car contact caused a second safety car situation, which froze the race until the final two laps.
At the restart, the fight was all-out, with the drivers who had managed their tyres better making a difference. Ramos recovered well to finish third, Meguetounif finished sixth Leonardo Fornaroli, who asked a lot of his car in the early stages of the race, finished ninth. The Piacenza native posted the fastest lap.
Fornaroli leads the championship standings with a three-point advantage over Gabriele Minì and five over Luke Browning. The Feature Race, scheduled for tomorrow at 8:35, will be the title decider.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Sprint Race Quote:“As expected, today’s Sprint Race was very hard-fought. No driver held back and there were two safety car situations. All our drivers finished in the points zone. I’m delighted to see Ramos go back to the podium. The sixth place of Meguetounif and the P9 of Fornaroli, who also posted the fastest lap, are equally positive. Fornaroli recovered well from P16 place on the grid as the drivers who asked more from their cars in the initial stages of the race paid a bit of a price in the final stages”.
