Trident takes points finish with Richard Verschoor

The FIA Formula 2 Championship started its fourth event of the season at the challenging Imola circuit today, with teams and drivers competing in the Sprint Race. Starting from the qualifying session, Trident Motorsport drivers Richard Verschoor and Roman Staněk showed to have a good feeling with the Italian track. The Czech driver secured P7, while the Dutchman ended up in P15. Verschoor showed good potential, but could not put together an ideal lap in a session where the results remained provisional for several hours, as some lap times set by competitors were first canceled and then reassigned.

At the start of the Sprint Race, Staněk was involved, without having any responsibility, in a multi-car collision at the Tamburello brake zone. The crash forced five drivers to retire, including the Trident Motorsport stalwart. The race was neutralized for seven laps. At the restart, Verschoor resumed in P8. The 23-year-old stayed in the same position until the end as no passing opportunities arose.

Still, Verschoor showed a consistent pace, which allowed him to keep himself in the points zone at the team's home track. This is certainly a positive boost for Trident Motorsport ahead of the Feature Race, starting tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Staněk will start from the seventh position on the grid, while Richard Verschoor will take off eight spots behind his teammate.

Giacomo Ricci,Team Manager, Sprint Race Quote:

Trident Motorsport takes points finish with Richard Verschoor

“We are not completely satisfied with the balance of today's race. We achieved the points zone with Verschoor, who started from the eighth row on the grid, but we were unable to do the same with Staněk, who was involved in a multi-car contact a few hundred meters away from the start. The Czech racer showed great chemistry with the track qualifying, in a place where he had previously won in Formula 3. We are certain that, if he could finish the race, he would have made today's result even better. However, we have all the elements needed to do well in tomorrow's Feature Race. We expect strategies to play a critical role, given that it was the drivers who best-managed tire degradation to emerge in the end today."
