Van Hoepen to compete in the 2026 FIA F2 Championship with Trident

Trident Motorsport is pleased to announce the first of the two drivers who will form its 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship line-up. The Milan-based team, with its operational headquarters in Ossona, will field promising Dutch driver Laurens Van Hoepen next season. For the 20-year-old from the Netherlands, it will be his first full year in the category, after making his debut earlier this season at the Baku round.

At the end of his second season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship—where he claimed five podiums and one pole position—Van Hoepen then made the step up to the higher category. On the challenging and fast Azerbaijani street circuit, the Dutchman immediately impressed, showing strong adaptability to the more powerful Formula 2 machinery.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Trident Motorsport:“We are very pleased to announce that Laurens Van Hoepen will contest the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Trident Motorsport. He is a driver we’ve had the chance to get to know and appreciate in the final part of this season. After his positive debut in Baku, Van Hoepen immediately felt comfortable with the team. I am sure the Dutch driver has all the qualities required to do a great job with our technical staff and to compete in a highly competitive season.”

Laurens Van Hoepen, Trident Motorsport driver:“I’m excited to compete in next season’s FIA Formula 2 Championship with Trident Motorsport. The experience gained in the three appearances I made in this championship has been very useful in preparing for this step. Together with the technical staff, we made progress that will be fundamental for next year. We have an intense and challenging season ahead of us.”
