Verschoor achieves fifth place with convincing performance

The tenth round of the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship was completed today with the running of the Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, and Trident Motorsport was able to secure solid points at the Belgian venue.
Thanks to a solid performance, Dutch driver Richard Verschoor delivered a fifth place, increasing the team’s points count on Belgian soil by 10. Qualifying saw Verschoor and teammate Roman Staněk post P8 and P21 respectively, which meant that the two drivers would have a race with different goals and expectations.
At the start, Verschoor had a quick getaway and claimed three spots up to P5, while Staněk made it up to P17. A crash during the first lap, and another one on lap 3, caused two safety car situations, which broke the overall pace. After the second restart, Staněk climbed up to P15, while Verschoor stayed in fifth. Two laps later, he made his move to fourth place.
For the 23-three-year-old racer, the pit-stop happened on lap 15 and saw him switch to Option tyres, with which he finished the race. He returned to the track in P7, before fighting back to a top-5 finis. Staněk put up a comeback drive, but the position on the grid did not allow him to go beyond P14 at the end. Both drivers started with Prime tyres, and switched to the more performing Option tyres towards the end.
Now the championship is taking about a month off: the next round is scheduled for the first weekend of September in Monza.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, Feature Race Quote: “Today’s Feature Race featured multiple incidents and safety car interventions. Our drivers were careful and avoided contact to finish a clean race. As for Verschoor, he showed a consistent pace that allowed him to recover from P8 to fifth place. He managed the Prime tyres well in the first part of the race, before attacking in the second. Staněk, made a good comeback, but his result was influenced by his position at the back end of the starting grid.”
