F4 CHAMPIONSHIP
The Italian Formula 4 Championship (F4 Italian Championship) is a racing series created in 2014 under the FIA umbrella and organized in Italy by ACI Sport. It is one of the first entry-level categories for professional single-seater racing for young talents coming from karting.
Starting from the 2025 season, the team with its head office in Milan and operational base in Ossona, in the Milan province, is also present in F4. This is how Trident Motorsport has strengthened its presence in the most representative categories of the international motorsport scene, completing a pathway designed to help and guide young talents all the way to the doors of Formula 1.
Drivers entering F4 usually have a maximum of one or two seasons of experience in single-seaters and sometimes come directly from karting. The team’s goal is to provide them with the right foundations and the proper tools to achieve their individual targets.
The team’s operational base in Ossona also features a sophisticated and modern driving simulator (along with a technical staff dedicated exclusively to it), an extremely important tool to support driver preparation.
F4 FORMAT
The F4 format is designed to allow young drivers to complete many kilometers over the race weekend while also competing in two separate races, with starting grids determined by two different qualifying sessions.
Unlike other categories that feature multiple races over the weekend but where the final result is influenced by a single qualifying session and the outcome of Race 2, in F4 the races are independent. This gives drivers the opportunity to achieve strong results in the second race even if the first one did not go well.
The F4 championship consists of 7 Italian events and 3 European Euro F4 events, and each event includes three races called Race 1, Race 2, and Race 3. Each F4 event is structured across several sessions during the season, each composed of three races: Race 1, Race 2, and Race 3.
On Friday there are two free practice sessions of 40 minutes each. On Saturday there are two qualifying sessions of 15 minutes and Race 1, while on Sunday Race 2 and Race 3 take place, all lasting 30 minutes plus 1 lap.
A special feature of these qualifying sessions is that, due to the large number of drivers, competitors are divided into three groups (Group A, Group B, and Group C) based on the overall classification obtained during qualifying practice.
Group A: 1st classified, 4th classified, etc.
Group B: 2nd classified, 5th classified, etc.
Group C: 3rd classified, 6th classified, etc.
The official calendar also includes collective test sessions held on the Thursday of the race weekend.
